Bland County honored the men and women of the county who participated in the World War, in a memorial sponsored by the Miller T. Burton Post No 20 American Legion, with J.R. Stafford as commander and C.W. Taylor as adjutant, in conjunction with the Board of Supervisors of Bland County. It recorded a long roll of participants from the county, including a separate listing of Colored service members and an attachment of additional names. Stars marked those who gave their lives in line of duty.
