Beaver Lake State Park in North Dakota occupies the western shore of Beaver Lake, roughly midway between Napoleon and Wishek, and provides hiking, boating, swimming, fishing, camping, and cabin stays across 273 acres beside a 968-acre lake. The park emerged from a local campaign to create a place honoring the early settlers who had lived along Beaver Lake. Residents gathered in 1929 at Shepard’s Pavilion to advance the idea, and the park was formally dedicated in July 1932. Its setting was then altered by damming Beaver Creek in 1933 to raise the lake level and by Works Progress Administration projects in 1935 and 1936 that added roads, paths, an earthen dock, and a picnic area.
