Chilhowee Mountain refers to two separate ridges in eastern Tennessee, both running northeast to southwest. The northern ridge forms an outer edge of the Great Smoky Mountains, stretching from the Little Pigeon River watershed to the Little Tennessee River near Chilhowee Dam, and is divided near Walland by a gap cut by Little River. The southern ridge runs from the Tellico Plains area to the Ocoee River within the Cherokee National Forest. Known for overlooks, scenic roads, trails, and recreation, both ridges also preserve a deeper Indigenous legacy through a name derived from Chilhowee, an eighteenth-century Cherokee village.
