Swans Club, Inc. was organized in October 1952 by a group of educators who worked at Washington Elementary School. The organization's mission is to provide humanitarian services to enhance community life. Its biennial debutante ball is a social highlight for Kenner. On February 2, 2006, the City of Kenner Council passed a resolution recognizing the organization's significance in the history of Kenner. Founding members were Gloria Bijole, Hilda S. Bujol, Evelyn Carroll, Lucille Carroll, Edna J. Crockem, Betsy B. Hammond, Angeline Harris, Margarete C. Houston, Ethel H. James, and Doris Bijole Jones.
