Town Hill is a ridge in the Ridge-and-Valley Appalachians that runs from western Maryland into Pennsylvania, rising to about 2,000 feet. Long associated with regional travel, it is crossed or followed by Interstate 70, bordered at its southern end by Interstate 68, and crossed by the former U.S. Route 40, now U.S. Route 40 Scenic. Its structure reflects the folded geology of the Appalachians: the ridge is supported by the Mississippian-age Pocono Formation, with Rockwell and Catskill formations exposed on its southeast flank, and with nearby Rays Hill it forms a syncline. Part of Buchanan State Forest covers its Pennsylvania section.
