The Commanding Officer's Compound included a building, outbuildings, a formal garden area, and an outdoor kitchen, and it served as the center of Fort business, especially during the Spanish period. Andrew Jackson appears to have come to the site in 1821 to sign the agreements that ceded all of Florida to the United States.
