Meek School was erected on ten acres of land given by Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Wadsworth and, chiefly through the efforts of Warren Hamner and Claude Miller, became the first consolidated school in Winston County. In the spring of 1923, Nathan Valley Springs, Old Arley, Smith School House, Cool Springs, Hiller, also known as New Hope and Gibson, Piney Ridge, Old Melville, Possum Trot, Old Bethel, Old McClellan Chapel, Flat Rock, Ardell, Helicon, and Crane Hill Schools were combined to form Meek School. Until then, students could not finish high school in eastern Winston County. The original wooden building stood approximately one hundred yards north of this location, a second rock building was later built, and it too was replaced by the current facility. Meek School endured as a source of community pride and fulfilled the dreams and hopes of its founders.
