Susie De Ridder grew up in a trucking family and often accompanied her father on trips as a young girl. Noticing the lack of women drivers, she asked her father about it, and his reply, "The steering wheel doesn't know who's holding it," shaped her life's direction and inspired her goal of becoming a truck driver. She carried on her father's legacy and committed herself to recruiting more women into the industry. Over 40 years as a professional driver, she drove 4 million accident-free miles. In 2020, she won Women in Trucking 1st Female Driver of the Year. She has been active in charity events and community service, serving as a top fundraiser for the Convoy for Hope, which aids cancer research and awareness, and becoming the first female driver chosen to lead the convoy in its 10-year history, while also being its top fundraiser by a driver. She has volunteered at high schools and community colleges mentoring students, volunteered at local shelters, and given rides to legislators. She dedicated her career to trucking, promoted and encouraged the employment of women, promoted their accomplishments, and worked to minimize obstacles faced by women in the trucking industry. In 2022, she was inducted into the MATS Wall of Fame and honored with a global award for Authentic Leadership from the Universal Women's Network for Women of Inspiration.
