Based in Moorhead, Minnesota, the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County preserves and shares the county’s history through the Hjemkomst Center, archives, tours, and stewardship of major historic sites. Founded in 1932 and renamed after a 2009 merger, it united county collections with the Hjemkomst interpretive site, originally created around the Hjemkomst Viking Ship and its voyage from Minnesota to Norway. The society also interprets the full-scale Hopperstad Stave Church Replica, the Bergquist Cabin, and the Comstock House, linking local settlement history, Norwegian-American heritage, and the people who shaped Clay County.
