Otway Covered Bridge in Otway, Ohio, is a Smith-type covered timber truss built in 1874 by the Smith Bridge Company of Toledo to carry a road over Scioto Brush Creek. At 127 feet long, it is one of the surviving covered bridges in this part of Ohio and reflects a late 19th-century practice of sheltering timber spans to protect the wood and prolong their use. After being bypassed and closed to traffic in 1961, it passed to the Otway Historical Society and became a preservation focus. Despite continued deterioration and tornado damage in 2012, repairs and rehabilitation restored it as a valued landmark of Ohio bridge building.
