The white barn that now serves as the Eagle County Historical Society local history museum began as part of a ranch at the Eagle I-70 interchange, about where the Burger King parking lot stands today. It was likely built about 1905 as a horse barn, and rancher Ross Chambers eventually acquired the property and operated his Castle Peak Dairy business from the large barn. In 1970, the state of Colorado purchased a right-of-way for the interstate highway, which bisected the Chambers ranch, making it necessary for the historic barn to be destroyed or moved. Ross's son Loren Chambers donated the building to the Historical Society on the condition that it be removed from the property, and after years of fundraising and hundreds of hours of volunteer help, the barn was moved to Chambers Park in 1984. The museum opened in 1989.
