Colley Union Church was erected on this site in 1890 on land reserved for that purpose by the Annie Potter family, and it was officially deeded as church property on January 10, 1917. Established as the United Evangelical Church of Colley Township, it later became the United Methodist Church of Colley Township after the merger of the Evangelical Brethren Church and the United Methodist Church. Following the start of World War II, the church became inactive and thereafter was used only for memorial services and Homecoming Day for the Village of Colley, a practice that ceased in the 1980s. From then on, the church was maintained by the Colley Cemetery Association as a landmark for the village. On the night of January 6, 1996, after two consecutive snowstorms totaling 53 inches of snow, the church collapsed, leaving only the vestibule, steeple, and belfry standing. Its original church bell and cornerstone, placed on May 5, 1890, were preserved, and the adjacent cemetery had been officially established as a burial site on June 24, 1865, by deed from the W.W. Potter family.
