The National Center for Civil and Human Rights in downtown Atlanta opened in 2014 as a museum linking the American civil rights movement to the broader global struggle for human rights. Developed from conversations among veterans of the 1960s freedom movement, the project advanced after years of planning, fundraising challenges, and design revisions. Its permanent exhibitions include the Morehouse College Martin Luther King Jr. Collection, an immersive civil rights gallery, and a gallery on international human rights campaigns. Expanded through a major 2025 renovation, the center has become a notable Atlanta institution that connects local history, Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, and ongoing debates over rights and citizenship.
