In McGehee, Arkansas, this museum is devoted to the wartime incarceration of Japanese Americans in the Arkansas Delta, especially at the nearby Rohwer and Jerome War Relocation Centers, where more than 17,000 people were held during the 1940s. Opened in 2013 in the historic McGehee Railroad Depot, it uses film, oral histories, photographs, personal artifacts, artworks, and changing exhibitions to present camp life and memory, and it has begun a lending library on the Japanese American experience. Closely linked to the surviving Rohwer landscape, it also stands as a memorial to a major chapter in United States wartime civil liberties history.
