A renowned mountain school located eight miles east grew from Alice Lloyd’s work after she came from Boston in 1916 and dedicated her life to the education of young people in the area. The Caney Creek Community Center was organized in 1923. After her death in 1962, the college was renamed to honor its founder, who inspired graduates to serve this region, with support from friends throughout the U.S.
