Barren River Lake State Resort Park is a Kentucky state park in south-central Kentucky built around Barren River Lake, a roughly 10,000-acre reservoir with about 141 miles of shoreline. The lake took shape after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began constructing a 146-foot dam in 1960, and the park was dedicated in 1965. Extending beyond Barren County into parts of Allen and Monroe counties, it developed as a recreation destination centered on boating, fishing, and water access. Its fishing is especially notable, including Kentucky’s 1991 state-record hybrid striped bass, while other attractions include marinas, trails, biking, horseback rides, golf, and community events.
