Mrs. Clinton Walker House, or Cabin on the Rocks, is a historic beach house on Carmel Point near Carmel-by-the-Sea, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1948 and completed in 1952 for Della Walker. Built directly on granite boulders at the ocean’s edge, the compact single-story house uses local Carmel stone, a low sea-colored roof, and Wright’s Usonian hexagonal plan to merge architecture with the coast. Its significance lies not only in its striking design, but also in being Wright’s only residential design overlooking the ocean. Later additions, a film appearance, and ongoing preservation reinforced its status as a landmark residence.
