Bears Ears is a pair of buttes in southeastern Utah's San Juan County that rise about 2,000 feet above Cedar Mesa to an elevation of 8,700 feet. The twin summits stand within Bears Ears National Monument, which takes its name from them and is managed by the Bureau of Land Management and the United States Forest Service. Surrounded by notable canyon country landmarks, including Dark Canyon Wilderness, Beef Basin, Comb Ridge, Indian Creek, and Canyonlands National Park, the buttes are a prominent feature of the region. Their name comes from their shape on the horizon, where they resemble a bear's ears.
