Harvey Weir Cook was an American ace pilot of World War I, born June 30, 1892 in Wilkinson, Indiana, who transferred to the US Air Service in September 1917, flew the French SPAD with the "Hat in The Ring" 94th Pursuit Squadron on the Western Front, was credited with destroying 7 enemy aircraft, and received the Distinguished Service Cross and a Distinguished Service Cross Oak Leaf Cluster. Indianapolis International Airport was originally named Harvey Weir Cook Airport. While serving with 361 Basehead Quarters and Base Squadron, Cook died in a crash of a P-40 while flying a military mission over New Zealand on March 25, 1943, and he was buried at the Punch Bowl National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Hawaii.
