History
5
Before the Civil War, Seth Hinshaw, a well-known abolitionist, operated an Underground Railroad station on this site. He also ran a store where he refused to sell goods produced by slave labor. In 1843, Hinshaw helped erect Liberty Hall, located one block west of this site, where many fiery anti-slavery meetings were held under his direction.
