Lieutenant Colonel John A. Hendricks was born March 7, 1824, and was killed on his birthday, March 7, 1862, during the Battle of Pea Ridge, Arkansas. He was the grandson of John Paul, credited as one of the founders of Madison, Indiana, and the son of William Hendricks, former Governor of the State of Indiana and a U.S. Senator.
