The cornerstone of Sant Peter's Kierch was laid on July 13, 1767, and the church was dedicated in 1769 by Henry Melchior Muhlenberg, patriarch of American Lutheranism. It was erected on ground provided by George Fisher, the founder of Middletown, for an annual rental of one grain of wheat.
