Belton Chalets in West Glacier, Montana, was built in 1910 and 1911 by the Great Northern Railway just outside Glacier National Park’s west entrance as the first part of a broader hotel, road, and trail system for park tourism. Designed in Swiss Chalet style, the complex helped shape later Great Northern building in Glacier. It once included five buildings, operated in its early decades by the Glacier Park Hotel Company. Less successful than the railway’s other Glacier properties, it declined to intermittent use by the 1930s, was sold in 1946, and later restored after new owners acquired it in 1997. It reopened in 1998 and joined a National Historic Landmark designation in 2000.
