Three and one half miles south, on Coalter Street in Staunton, is the birthplace of Thomas Woodrow Wilson, the eighth Virginia-born President. He served as Governor of New Jersey and as the twenty-eighth President during World War I. He was the chief author and sponsor of the League of Nations. He was born on December 28, 1856, and died in Washington on February 3, 1924.
