After Riverview Union High School closed in the fall of 1931, the Live Oak School District, later the Antioch Unified School District, opened a new high school on D Street with this cupola, topped at the time by a Mayflower weathervane, placed prominently at the center of the roof. In 1955, when a new Antioch High School was built at 18th and G Streets, the D Street building became Antioch Junior High School. In 1965, the old main brick building was demolished because of earthquake damage, and the cupola was moved to the corner of a newly constructed multipurpose building facing D Street, where it remained until it was transferred to the Antioch Historical Society Museum in 2006. The weathervane had been given to the museum years earlier, and after many years the cupola and weathervane were reunited at this site for display and preservation.
