Darwin Falls Wilderness is a protected desert landscape in eastern California beside Death Valley National Park, established in 1994 as part of the National Wilderness Preservation System. Spanning 8,189 acres, it includes parts of the Darwin Plateau and Darwin Hills, where volcanic highlands and older marine sedimentary rocks create varied terrain from Darwin Canyon to the range crest. Desert scrub dominates, with Joshua tree woodlands at higher elevations. Though known as northern Mojave country, it also shows ties to colder deserts farther north. The area takes its name from nearby Darwin Falls, a rare year-round spring-fed riparian oasis just outside the wilderness, and from Darwin French.
