Coso Range Wilderness is a protected area in California at the northern end of the Coso Range, designated in 1994 by the California Desert Protection Act. Its desert landscape includes Joshua trees, creosote, and cactus, as well as old mining areas that preserve evidence of earlier human use. Bordered on the south and east by Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, it lies alongside one of the Mojave Desert’s best-known military reservation landscapes. The area is significant for combining protected desert habitat, traces of past mining activity, and a setting shaped by its proximity to a major military installation.
