On this site, on February 28, 1960, nine Lincoln High School students ignited the Direct Action Civil Rights Movement in Chapel Hill with the first sit-in at Colonial Drug: William Cureton, John Farrington, Harold Foster, Earl Geer, Dave Mason Jr., Clarence Merritt Jr., James Merritt, 'Clyde' Douglas Perry, and Albert Williams.
