Thomas County, Georgia, honored the Confederate soldiers from the county who died during the war of 1861-5 with a memorial erected in 1879 by the Ladies Memorial Association, bearing the lines, “On Fame’s eternal camping ground, Their silent tents are spread. And Glory guards with solemn round, the bivouac of the dead.”
