Old Perry Cemetery
History
1
This cemetery served the pioneer settlers of the Perry community, where the first burial was Jane Leach, a schoolteacher who died in 1854. Perry included several stores, a gin, a school, a Union church, and a post office. After a destructive storm in 1873, residents moved to the townsite of new Perry two miles east, and in 1881 the settlement was relocated to the present site of Moody two miles southwest when Santa Fe rail lines were completed to the area. The cemetery is the only remnant of the original Perry community.
