With America’s armed forces completely integrated, the history of Black Floridian military service from 1950 forward became inseparable from that of other citizens. When the country called, citizens responded in varying degrees of fervor. Dedication to preserving the ideals for which the United States of America stands did not change with racial affiliation. Black Floridians gave their time, their heart, and all too often their lives in that service.
