Operated by Kentucky Female Orphan School since 1944, this institution grew from an orphan school founded by James Parrish and Dr. Lewis L. Pinkerton, the first female orphan school in the United States. Chartered by the 1846 Kentucky Legislature, it opened in 1849 with 14 students present and for over a century has provided for deserving young women.
