After the three hundred eighty-two-day Montgomery Bus Boycott and the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that ended segregation on buses in Montgomery, Alabama, Rosa Parks sat up front on the “Victory Ride” bus. On December 1, 2000, Troy University opened the Rosa Parks Museum on the site where Parks was arrested on December 1, 1955, for refusing to give up her seat to a white man. Artist Ian Mangum designed and constructed the same portrait of Rosa Parks on Maxwell Air Force Base at the site where she worked in the 1940s.
