This TA-4J Skyhawk last served with VC-8 at Roosevelt Roads NAS, Puerto Rico, as an aggressor aircraft supporting Top Gun training. The A-4 series served in Vietnam, and the TA-4J was the advanced training version of the basic attack aircraft. Donated to the museum by the U.S. Navy in May, 2003, it was one of the last of its type to fly in military service. Its maximum weight was 24,500 pounds, and it was powered by a Pratt and Whitney J52-P-6 engine delivering 8,500 pounds of thrust. Its range was 1350 miles, its maximum speed was 660 miles per hour, and its ceiling was 38,700 feet.
