The Elmside Park Mounds in Madison, Wisconsin, are a small surviving group of Native American effigy mounds from the Late Woodland period, likely built between 800 and 1100 A.D. Two animal-shaped earthworks remain, though their exact forms are uncertain and have been identified as a lynx and a bear. They were created by Mound Builder peoples for burial and ceremonial use and once belonged to the larger Oakridge Mound Group, whose other mounds were destroyed by home construction. As a possible last remnant of a Late Woodland community on Lake Monona’s northeast shore, they hold important archaeological value.
