Yaquina Head is a lava-formed headland on the Oregon coast just north of Newport, projecting into the Pacific and giving this shoreline a geologic character distinct from the surrounding coast. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management as Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area within the National Landscape Conservation System, it includes the setting of the Yaquina Head Light. Congress designated the 95-acre site an Outstanding Natural Area in 1980. Along U.S. Route 101 and about 108 feet above sea level, it offers a compact mix of coastal scenery, short trails, forest stands, wildlife viewing, an interpretive center, and lighthouse tours.
