In October 1937, here, Frank T. Street became the first member-consumer in Kentucky to receive power from a rural electric cooperative. The energy was provided by Henderson RECC, the first rural electric system in the state to be energized. Cooperative electricity provided a more stable and diversified economy and a higher standard of living in rural areas.
