John Chapman, famous as Johnny Appleseed, was born in Leominster, Mass., on Sept. 26, 1774, and died in Fort Wayne, Ind., on March 18, 1845. Without a hope of recompense and without a thought of pride, he planted apple trees, preached, and lived and died.
