The seeds for this tree were flown aboard the U.S. Space Shuttle Atlantis from December 2-8, 1988, by Lt. Col. Jerry L. Ross, USAF. This tree was presented to the City of Cresco on July 27, 1990, by Maurice Kramer, a Notre Dame High School alumnus and State 4-H Program Leader at Purdue University.
