In 1890 Andrew McNally purchased 2360 acres from the Stearns Ranchos for his La Mirada Colony of "country gentleman estates" and his Windermere Ranch. His plans were not fulfilled; instead, the property grew into the McNally olive oil empire. Nearby to the east are the sites of the railroad station and the olive oil plant, and the ranch buildings are preserved in Neff Park two blocks north.
