Moratock Park in Danbury, North Carolina preserves the site of the Moratock Iron Furnace, linking a public landscape with the region’s industrial past. Its greatest historical significance comes from 1865, when Union cavalry led by George Stoneman moved through the area during raid operations and destroyed most of the original foundry works. That destruction connected the site to Stoneman’s Raid and to the Civil War’s closing months in North Carolina. Recognizing this importance, the site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. It remains valued as both a public park and a preserved iron-making site marked by wartime loss.
