Greene County honored all who served their country in World War I, World War II, the Korean conflict, and Vietnam, with a monument erected in 1987 by loved ones and friends of Greene County veterans. It also remembered those who paid the supreme sacrifice in those wars: in World War I, Charlie H. Burns, John Dody, William O. Cottles, Frank Crosby, Birt Dunlap, Charles Arthur Lewis, Levert Massey, Abner Rush Morrow, Willie S. Phillips, Clarence J. Smith, and Walter G. Taylor; in World War II, James Linard "Jack" Carpenter, John Gardner, Willie Gould, Andrew J. Hook Jr., George Horton, Frank James Inge III, Roosevelt James, Paul M. Lynn, Joel T. McLemore Jr., James V. Nicholas, Hugh W. Owens, Verner S. Phillips, Harry W. Ramey, Robert W. Ratliff, Wilfred B. Robinson, Leonard Temple, Glenn H. Tucker Jr., and Fred Hays; in Korea, James King Davis and Luther Hicks; and in Vietnam, Taylor Henry McLemore and Johnny Wright Means.
