Amos H. Horn was born in Cloverdale Township on January 13, 1858, attended Amo academy in 1870, taught school at age 15 in 1873, graduated from the Virginia State University Medical Department in 1881, and practiced medicine in Putnamville from 1884 to 1925. In 1887 he married Katie Sinclair of Cloverdale. Dr. Horn, his wife Katie, and their daughter Reggie Hazel lived in their Putnamville home north of Highway 40 on the east side of the Putnamville Greencastle Road, and they were members of the Putnamville United Methodist Church. He died on 12/7/1925 and was buried at Cloverdale Cemetery. Dr. Horn's 1884 office was later used as a post office before falling into disrepair, and after the McClure family donated it for use as a museum, it was moved in 2004 across Highway 40 to the Putnamville Public Square through a project inspired by Georgia Sublette and Ruby Stringer and carried out by numerous volunteers under the direction of Lee Stewart.
