Rosepine, Louisiana, was incorporated on December 24, 1902, by proclamation of Governor William Wright Heard and established on Sections 3 and 4 of Township 25, Range 9W. During the Vernon Parish lumber boom, Rosepine had a school, drugstore, barbershop, two churches, three grocery stores, three restaurants, and seven saloons. J.J. Gryer was elected the first mayor in 1902, and succeeding mayors included Thomas Allen in 1906, E.Z. Sumrall in 1907, J.E. Williams in 1908, Thomas Allen in 1909, John T. Cupit in 1950, and J.B Hall from 1962 to 1997.
