Learjet 28-001, the 28 model Longhorn, serial number 001, first flew in 1977 and received FAA certification on July 29, 1979. In 1979, while serving on the Board of Directors of Gates Learjet, Neil Armstrong was asked to help provide publicity for the company’s new Model 28, and he set five FAI records in the 28 Longhorn. Soon afterward, Gates Learjet sold the aircraft to a commercial customer, and it passed through a number of corporate owners until 2020, when Kevin Hayward of Ox Industries officially donated it to the Armstrong Air & Space Museum for permanent display on August 5, 2020.
