The Meyer Site, near Westernport in Garrett County, Maryland, preserves the remains of a Monongahela culture village on Chestnut Grove Road beside an alluvial bottom along the west side of the North Branch of the Potomac River. It is identified as the uppermost known Late Prehistoric village on that branch of the river. Its importance rests both on its connection to Monongahela culture and on its Potomac River setting, which places it within the late prehistoric history of the upper river valley. In 1973, it was entered on the National Register of Historic Places as part of Maryland’s archaeological record.
