From 1907 to 1921, William Conners, proprietor of the Buffalo Courier Express, built a poultry farm at Angola, New York, that ultimately covered 360 acres and was promoted as a "White City" stretching toward the lake in symmetrical form. The William J. Conners Poultry Farm claimed perfect sanitation, health, vigor, and vim, and called itself the greatest plant for the production of poultry and eggs in the world. Of the 360 acres, 100 were covered by buildings devoted entirely to poultry and egg production, including 19 laying houses, 5 brooding houses, 108 colony houses, 2 incubator cellars, 60 outdoor brooders, 60 individual houses, and 4 dwellings, for a total of 258 buildings, representing an investment of $250,000. In 1910, Wm. J. Conners won the International Cup for utility poultry and eggs, and in 1911 the farm advertised eggs for hatching, baby chicks, baby ducks, Imperial Pekin ducks, and several chicken breeds while emphasizing its vast facilities and its use of Lake Erie.
