Graycliff, a Frank Lloyd Wright estate on a bluff above Lake Erie in Highland-on-the-Lake, was designed in 1926 as the summer home of Isabelle Reidpath Martin and Darwin D. Martin. Built from 1926 to 1931, it includes the Isabelle R. Martin House, the Foster House, and the Heat Hut within Wright-planned grounds and gardens. Noted for its transparent central pavilion, strong horizontal lines, and close connection to the landscape, Graycliff stands as a key work of Wright’s Organic Style and one of few designs he built in that period. After later use by the Piarists, the estate was saved from redevelopment, restored, and opened as a historic house museum.
