In Jenkins, Kentucky, the David A. Zegeer Coal-Railroad Museum preserves local history in an authentically restored 1911 train station at 102 Main Street, across from the former Jenkins High School. Dedicated on May 9, 1998, it focuses on the history of Jenkins and the Consolidation Coal Company through photographs of historic and modern coal mining, railroad and mining tools and artifacts, and scrip once used in company stores. Many items came from local residents, giving the collection a distinctly local character and connecting the town’s railroad and coal-mining past to the community that lived it.
