John Wesley Powell National Conservation Area is a 29,868-acre protected landscape in northeastern Utah, east of Vernal along the northern boundary of Dinosaur National Monument. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management within the National Landscape Conservation System, it was authorized by the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act. The area is named for explorer John Wesley Powell, whose 1869 journey on the Green and Colorado rivers reached its 150th anniversary when the conservation area was established. As of 2022, it had no developed recreation sites, designated trails, or visitor facilities, and was used mainly for hunting and motorized recreation while providing habitat for mule deer, white-tailed prairie dog, milkweed, and Flaming Gorge evening primrose.
